Getting started

Questions

Photos and the box

Where are my photos stored?

Always on your phone. If you sign in, a copy of each photo is also backed up to secure cloud storage that only your account can reach.

What happens when I delete a photo?

It is removed from your phone and, if you are signed in, from your other devices. A copy stays in your backup until you delete your account. Moment can't bring a deleted photo back. A photo you delete while signed out is also removed from your other devices the next time you sign in to the account it belongs to.

How do I share a photo?

Open it, tap the … menu, then Share. You can turn off the date stamp or the Moment logo in Settings, under Sharing.

The viewfinder says camera access is off.

Tap Open Settings and allow Camera. Until then, the camera button adds photos from your library instead.

How do I remove everything?

If you are signed in, delete your account first (everything in your backup is erased after 30 days). Then remove the app to delete the photos on your phone.

Backup and sync

Do I need to sign in?

No. Without signing in, Moment works exactly the same, fully on your phone, with no internet needed. Signing in with Apple or Google is optional and gives you backup and shared boxes. Open the grid, tap the gear for Settings, and find Backup.

How does backup work?

New photos upload in the background while Moment is open. If you are offline, they wait and upload when you are back online. The first time you sign in on a phone, photos already in the box are backed up too.

What is synced?

Your photos and when they were taken. The way photos lie in the box, your background, the camera's style and your settings stay on each phone.

Can I use Moment on two phones?

Yes. Sign in with the same Apple or Google account on both. A photo taken on one appears on the other, and a photo deleted on one is removed from the other (a copy stays in your backup until you delete your account).

What if I sign in with a different account on the same phone?

Moment asks before adding this phone's photos to it ("Add" or "Not now"; you can add them later in Settings, then Backup). Photos from one account are never added to another.

What does signing out do?

Syncing stops. Moment asks whether to keep the photos on this phone or remove the backed-up ones from it. Removed photos stay in your backup and come back when you sign in again; photos not backed up yet always stay on the phone.

Shared boxes

How do I make a shared box?

Sign in, tap the box name at the top, then New shared box. Name it and choose a background and a camera style. Photos you take while it is on screen drop into it for everyone. When you reach the limit, the app tells you.

How do I invite someone?

Open Settings, then Shared boxes, tap the box, then tap Invite with a link. Send the link in any chat. It works for 7 days. Whoever opens it sees the box and taps Join; without the app, the page sends them to the App Store.

What do the other members see?

Your photos in the box, your display name, your colour and your profile picture. They never see your email address. To show your initial instead of your picture, turn on "Hide my photo" in Settings, under Profile.

How do I leave a box?

Open Settings, then Shared boxes, tap the box, then tap Leave box. The photos you added stay in the box for the group. If you own it, the box passes to the member who has been there longest.

How do I delete a box or remove a member?

If you own the box, open Settings, then Shared boxes, tap the box, then tap Delete box (everyone loses the box and its photos). To remove a member, tap them in the Members list of that box and choose Remove from box.

How do I report a photo or a person?

Open the photo and tap the … menu, then Report, or tap a member in the member list. We review reports within 24 hours and can remove photos and people.

How do I block or unblock someone?

Open the photo's … menu, tap Report and turn on "Also block this person", or tap the person in the member list and choose Block. Their photos disappear from all your boxes. Unblock them any time in Settings, under Shared boxes.

Can members keep my photos?

Yes. Members can save a photo to their own box or to Photos, or share it. Moment can't take those copies back.

What happens to my shared boxes if I delete my account?

You leave every box at once and your photos stay in them for the group. After 30 days they are erased from every box, along with your shared profile and picture, your invites and your blocks. Reports you made stay, without your name. See Delete your account below.

Notifications

How do I turn notifications off?

In Moment: Settings, then Notifications. In your phone's settings:

  • On iPhone: Settings, then Notifications, then Moment.
  • On Android: Settings, then Apps, then Moment, then Notifications (the exact path varies by phone).

Privacy and Terms

What does Moment collect?

No ads, no tracking. Moment sends anonymous usage statistics (such as "photo taken", with the app version and device type) and crash reports, so we can see what to improve and fix problems. They never include your photos, your email or account details, or your location. Turn both off in Settings with the "Anonymous data" switch. Read the full Privacy Policy.

Where are the Terms?

Read the Terms of Service.

Delete your account

In the app: open Moment, then Settings, then Profile, then Delete account, and confirm.

No longer have the app? Email [email protected] from the email address of your account, with the subject "Delete my Moment account", and we will delete it for you.
